Detox – pure and simple

Detox is a huge trend within health and wellness right now. Detox, short for detoxification, is all about helping the body neutralize or eliminate toxins from the body – making you feel fresher and healthier. When our bodies process food, several waste products are released into our bodies, such as preservatives, food colorings and residues of pesticides.

The human body is a marvelous construction. It will do all in its power to protect its most important part, i.e. the brain. To prevent toxins (anything that can potentially harm body tissue) from migrating to the brain, the body deposits the toxins in our fat cells instead. Unfortunately, this is similar to dumping toxic barrels in the sea. The toxins may “go away” for a little while, but pretty soon, the barrels will start leaking…

This leaking is a continuous, ongoing process in our bodies. This is when detox comes into play, since detox transforms toxins to less harmful, water-soluble compounds that can be excreted via stools or urine.

When special nutrients comes into contact with our cells, a signal goes out to our genes, telling them to increase the production of endogenous antioxidants – several times more effective than any antioxidants we may ingest through our diet. Detoxifying enzymes are also formed in the same process, helping our bodies eliminate toxins. This biological process is the very key to healthy cells.
